Understanding Google Maps

As a 21st century business owner, you probably already understand how important it is for your company to have a solid Internet presence. With expert search engine optimization, you can rank at the top of the most popular search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo! Social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter can also provide your company with a direct link to current and potential clients.

What else can you do?

Make sure you claim and maintain your Google Places listing.

With a Google Places listing, your business will automatically be included in Google Maps—making it easy for potential clients to locate you! With this application, your customer can search for your company and the city/state location and get instant access to:

  • a map, satellite, and hybrid view of your location
  • your address and phone number
  • link to your site
  • link to your Google Places page (a detailed listing of your business)
  • reviews
  • directions

In one simple search, your customers can get the basic information they need about your business. This also makes you accessible to potential clients who are searching generally for your type of business.

In order to have the optimum online presence, it is essential for you to maintain your site, your connections through social media, and the available information about your business including your Google Places page. No matter where your clients search for you, be sure they find the best, most up-to-date information about your business from every angle—Web, Images, Places, etc.

I love this blog! I think using Google maps is a great, creative way to spread the word about your business. I never would’ve thought about it. Everybody uses Google maps for directions to the closest restaurant or whatever. I think having your business on there is a great benefit and it literally puts your business on the map.

Do the Google Maps and Places pages have any relationship with smartphone-based apps with maps?
